Eff it: Let’s get Woke about the Tennessee Titans 2017 Draft

As you’ve probably noticed, we at Run Pass Opinion love talking Tennessee Titans, but are done with delivering traditional draft coverage.

It’s not out of ignorance: for years, on our previous outlet, we delivered some of the best insights you’d ever want on the Titans leading up to the draft. We know our shit, but we’ve also figured out how to fake it.

And we… WILL. NEVER. DELIVER. CONTENT. WE DON’T. BELIEVE. IN.

So, while you’ve seen post after post discussing the 1st round picks the Titans should target, we want to dive deeper.

To that end, here are a few prospects that I’ve studied who make sense for the Titans in the “Second Tier” of this year’s draft. That means guys who might slip to the 45th or later pick.

So, who should the Tennessee Titans target with a trade for a 2nd rounder, or using their natural two-pack of 3rd rounders?

WR:

·      Chris Godwin: Penn St

o   6’1”, 209 lbs

o   40 time: 4.42 sec

o   Vertical jump: 36”

o   Productive WR

o   Surprised with his speed at combine

o   Thrived w/ QB Christian Hackenberg in 2015.

o   Talented returner.

o   Caught a lot of deep balls in a big time conference, yet runs crisp routes.

o   KR standout as well.

·      Cooper Kupp, Eastern Washington

o   6’2”, 204 lbs.

o   40 time: 4.62

o   Vertical Jump: 31”

o   Extremely productive and natural pass catcher.

o   Grandfather is in the HOF and father played QB in the NFL.

o   All time leader in FCS catches, yards and TDs.

o   Played poor competition… will he work harder against the big boys?

TE:

·      Jake Butt, Michigan

o   6’5”, 246 lbs

o   No combine results due to injury

o   Torn ACL in Bowl Game will cause him to drop, but he’s a very high floor TE.

o   Solid blocker.

o   Makes big catches on 3rd down/red zone.

o   Reminds me of Jason Witten.

·      Evan Engram, Ole Miss

o   6’3”, 234 lbs

o   40 time: 4.42 sec

o   Vertical jump: 36”

o   Nation’s most prolific TE (All American and All-SEC).

o   2 year team captain.

o   Was a stud recruit who dominated right away.

o   QB Safety blanket who can also be a big play option.

o   Meh blocker, but not quite a disaster.

LB

·      T.J. Fucking Watt, Wisconsin

o   6’4”, 252 lbs.

o   4.69 sec

o   Vert: 37” (128 broad jump, great shuttle times)

o   1 year wonder, but scouts rave about how he looked this year.

o   Naturally excellent run stopper, needs to mature as a cover LB.

o   Effort pass rusher more than technique/gifted rusher.

o   Has picked up the little things very well.

·      Alex Anzalone, Florida ((pronounced ann-zuh-LOAN-ee))

o   6’3”, 241 lbs

o   4.63 sec (monster shuttle times)

o   Stud LB who can play all 3 spots, excels in coverage.

o   Injuries are the killer here.

o   Hasn’t finished a season healthy all through college, but they aren’t long-term injuries that sap speed/strength.

o   Could be better against the run, but is a fucking boss almost everywhere else.

CB

·      Sidney Jones, Washington

o   6’0”, 186 lbs

o   4.47 sec

o   vert: 33.5

o   Tore his Achilles tendon at his pro day. Prior to that, he was one of the best CBs in the world. A bit of a gambler, but has the instincts to win more than he loses. If he slips past Round 2, teams will fight for him.

·      Quincy Wilson, Florida

o   6’1”, 211 lbs

o   4.54 sec

o   vert: 118”

o   Wilson is a playmaker with swagger for days. Not an amazing athlete, but sticks to WRs and tackles well.

·      Cameron Sutton, UT

o   5’11”, 188 lbs.

o   4.52 sec

o   vert: 34

o   Sutton is a pure man coverage player with great feet and reactions. Physical lock-up guy in routes, but not a reliable tackler. Deep speed may be an issue. Solid NB and punt returner as well.

S

·      Buddha Baker, Washington

o   5’10”, 195 lbs.

o   4.45 sec

o   vert: 32.5

o   Star player who was the coach on the field for that secondary.

o   Very good acceleration and closing speed.

o   Reminds me of Bob Sanders,

·      Marcus Maye. Florida

o   6’0”

o   210 lbs

o   Missed last 3 games of the season w/ a broken bone in his arm.

o   Stud in both man and zone, can move between SS, FS and NB/rusher. Is a reliable last line of defense,
